Leadership
Student leadership opportunities
At Trunkey Public School, leadership is a shared journey that extends far beyond our school grounds. We offer meaningful leadership opportunities that empower our students to build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of service. Each year, students have the chance to be elected as captains and prefects—roles that carry important representative responsibilities and provide valuable leadership experience. These leaders act as role models and ambassadors both within and beyond the classroom.
Our student leaders actively participate in events such as the GRIP Student Leader Conferences, Leaders Luncheon, and Young Leaders program. Through these collaborative opportunities, our student leaders embrace values such as Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, and Empathy, gaining the confidence to represent their school with pride and purpose. Working alongside their peers from other small schools, Trunkey’s leaders foster a strong sense of community and gain a broader perspective that prepares them to lead with heart and purpose both inside and outside the school environment.
At Trunkey Public School, leadership is not just a title – it’s an active and celebrated part of our school culture, shaping confident, capable, and community-minded young people ready to make a positive difference.
Young Leaders
Each year, student leaders from the Heritage Country Small Schools, including Trunkey Public School, travel to Sydney to participate in the Young Leaders program. This exciting opportunity allows them to hear from high-profile Australian leaders who share their experiences, insights, and inspiration. The event broadens the students’ understanding of leadership and motivates them to develop their own skills and confidence. Through attending the Young Leaders program, students return to their schools with renewed enthusiasm and a deeper commitment to making a positive impact within their communities.
Leaders Luncheon
Each year during Education Week, student leaders from Trunkey Public School and other Heritage Country Small Schools come together for the highly anticipated Leaders Luncheon. This special event provides a unique opportunity for our captains and prefects to connect with their peers and be inspired by a guest speaker—often a local young achiever who has excelled in their chosen field. Through hearing firsthand experiences and insights, our student leaders gain motivation and practical ideas to help them grow as confident, responsible role models within their schools and communities.
GRIP Leadership
The GRIP Student Leader Conference is a highlight for our student leaders from Trunkey Public School and other Heritage Country Small Schools. This dynamic leadership day equips captains and prefects with practical skills and inspiration, learning valuable lessons in communication, teamwork, goal-setting, and problem-solving. The conference fosters a supportive environment where young leaders can share ideas, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of responsibility. Empowered by the GRIP experience, our students return ready to make a positive impact and lead with integrity at their schools.
Kids' Council
Kids' Council is student leadership at it's best! Our school captains run council meetings where every student has the opportunity to have a say about what is important to them at school and to make suggestions that are valued by their peers. Captains then take recommendations to the staff and the Trunkey P&C Association on behalf of the student cohort.
