High potential and gifted education (Please note: this page is not fully complete, we will be adding more to it throughout the year)

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
At Trunkey Public School, we are committed to providing High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) opportunities within our unique multi-stage classroom. Through strong collaboration between our dedicated teachers and support staff, we tailor learning experiences to challenge and engage every student. Our approach ensures that each learner can explore and develop their individual strengths, fostering growth and achievement in their domains of potential, no matter their year level. We strive to create an inclusive environment where all students are encouraged to reach their highest capabilities.
Across our school
In addition to our local efforts, Trunkey Public School actively participates in the Heritage Country Small Schools network to extend HPGE opportunities across our regional community. By working closely with neighbouring schools, we share resources, expertise, and specialised programs that enrich learning experiences for high potential and gifted students. This collaborative approach enables students to connect with peers, access broader learning challenges, and benefit from a supportive network dedicated to nurturing their unique talents.
Across NSW
Supporting high potential and gifted learners is a key focus across New South Wales, reflecting the Department of Education’s commitment to equity and excellence in education. Trunkey Public School’s HPGE initiatives align with state-wide strategies to identify and meet the diverse needs of all students. Through ongoing professional development, targeted programs, and community partnerships, we contribute to the broader goal of ensuring that every student in NSW has the opportunity to maximise their learning potential.
